About Psychedelic
The psychedelic genre, or psychedelia (from Ancient Greek psukhḗ – “mind, soul” – and dêlos or “manifest, visible”), refers to any artform ‘relating to or denoting drugs that produce hallucinations and apparent expansion of consciousness.’
It came to prominence during the 1960s Counterculture movement, permeating audio/graphic/visual fields in an era that came to be known for its rampant experimentation.
An example of psychedelia transcending music and visual art would be Santana’s 1970 masterpiece, Abraxas, and its landmark album cover.
