SmSniff : Smart Network Sniffer (no winpcap required)
Most of network sniffers require winpcap or libpcap to craft the tcp/ip packets and capture them. It must have troubled you since you don’t have any administrator privillige to install the winpcap driver. What if you’re in your college computer lab , logged in as non-admin user, and want to run your sniffer but you don’t even have the right to install the winpcap driver ? Then , SmSniff should be suitable for you!
The captured protocols are HTTP,SMPTP,POP3,and FTP. To not using WinPcap driver , you should choose ‘Raw Sockets‘ method insted of ‘WiPcap Capture Driver’ option. Otherwise, Using WipPcap driver is still the better method.

If you wanna do OS fingerprinting I would suggest using NetworkMiner (available at sourceforge). It also shows you the TCP connections sort of like SmartSniff does.
